The Button Stuff That Makes Things Go Boom
The Bleepin' MIDI Triggers Screen (aka: Your Roadie in Tiny Robot Form)
The MIDI triggers screen is where you teach OnSong to do stuff when your fancy MIDI gadgets yell at it. You can use this screen to eavesdrop on MIDI commands & then boss OnSong around like a tiny digital puppet. These nerdy little shortcuts are called MIDI triggers.
Listenin' for Triggers
When this screen is open, OnSong will basically sit there & listen for MIDI commands like a creepy stalker, then add 'em to the list. Send the same MIDI command again & it'll pick that item. Send it a third time & boom — you gotta pick what OnSong should actually DO. Actions show up to the right of your MIDI command, just chillin' there.
You can change which channels OnSong is bein' a voyeur on, or kill the whole listenin' thing by tappin' on the "Listenin' for MIDI input..." text at the bottom to open the Listenin' Channel Picker.
Mappin' Actions (aka: Teachin' Your App New Tricks)
Actions get glued to MIDI commands by tappin' the row. This lets you pick an action to wire up to that command.
Addin' Triggers
Feelin' fancy & wanna add MIDI triggers the hard way? Tap the + button in the lower right. This opens the MIDI Editor so you can tell OnSong exactly what MIDI command to watch for like a hawk.
Editin' Triggers
Wanna mess with your MIDI triggers? Tap the Edit button in the upper right. This turns the triggers list into edit mode, lettin' you tap rows & change what MIDI command is bein' observed using the MIDI Editor.
Reorderin' Triggers (aka: Shufflin' Your Digital Deck)
Change the order of MIDI triggers by tappin' Edit in the upper right, or just drag & drop like the lazy person you are. (Spoiler alert: the order literally doesn't matter. We just like to watch y'all rearrange stuff.)
Ditchin' Triggers
Oops, you accidentally told OnSong to listen for some random MIDI command? Swipe right to left on it & tap Delete. You can also nuke it in edit mode if you're feelin' extra deletey.
Context Menu (aka: Right-Click Your Feels)
You can tap & hold on MIDI triggers (iOS/iPadOS) or right-click (macOS) to get a context menu full of extra stuff you can do.
- Pick an Action — choose what OnSong does when the MIDI shows up.
- Edit — tweak the MIDI trigger, the event it's listenin' for, what happens next, & all that nerdy stuff.
- Disable — turns off the trigger & makes it look all sad & faded.
- Reenable — switches a disabled trigger back on like you're givin' it CPR.
- Remove — yeets the MIDI trigger out of the list forever.
Tweakin' Settings
Wanna control how OnSong handles MIDI stuff? Hit the MIDI Settings Menu. This is where you can do wild things like listen for chords or make your MIDI instrument play 'em back at you.
Real talk: any MIDI you add but DON'T give an action to gets nuked the second you close this screen. YOLO, am I right?
