Import usin' File Sharin'

File sharin' be a way t' move files on an' off o' yer device when connected t' a computer usin' th' USB sync/charge cable, savvy? If ye be runnin' a Mac on a newer version o' macOS, ye can find th' connected iOS/iPadOS device in a Finder window under Locations. If ye be runnin' on a Windows computer, or an older version o' macOS, ye can connect t' yer device usin' th' iTunes application, matey.

Addin' Files

Th' first step in this process be t' add files onto yer device usin' iTunes file sharin'. This be done usin' th' iTunes application runnin' on a Mac or PC, Arrr!

Searchin'

Tap on th' search bar at th' top o' th' list t' search th' visible files an' folders by name. Start typin' t' view results that start with th' search query, or tap on th' "Search" button on yer keyboard t' find files an' folders that contain th' search term, ye scallywag.

Selectin'

Tap on files t' check an' uncheck them for import. Ye can also use th' Select All an' Deselect All buttons on th' bottom o' th' screen t' select or deselect everythin' in th' currently viewed folder. If ye select a backup file, OnSong will prompt ye that importin' a backup will overwrite yer current library before continuin'. If confirmed, only th' backup file be imported an' th' library be restored, Blimey!

Importin'

Once ye have some files checked, tap on th' Import button in th' upper right corner t' begin th' import process. If ye have selected t' import a file that was already imported, OnSong will have ye choose an action t' take on th' duplicate file. When th' import process be completed, ye be returned t' All Songs screen, matey.

Sortin'

Ye can change th' sort order o' th' files an' folders t' make selectin' them for import easier, savvy? Tap on th' sort icon in th' lower left corner t' bring up th' followin' options:

• Name sorts files an' folders by file name in ascendin' alphabetic order.
• Size sorts larger files t' th' top o' th' list.
• Created sorts files that were created recently t' th' top o' th' list.
• Modified sorts files that were most recently modified t' th' top o' th' list.

Tappin' on th' sort method more than once will toggle between ascendin' an' descendin' order, Arrr!

Deletin'

Ye can delete files from iTunes File Sharin' by swipin' right t' left over th' name o' th' file. This will reveal a Delete button that ye can press t' permanently delete th' file, ye scallywag.

Context Menu

Tap an' hold (iOS/iPadOS) or right-click (macOS) on a file or folder t' perform additional actions, matey.

• Delete will delete th' selected file or folder.
• Rename will prompt ye t' enter a new name for th' file or folder while maintainin' th' original extension.
• Preview will open a screen showin' ye a preview o' th' file.
• More... will open th' activities menu where ye can do other things with th' selected file or folder, Ahoy!

Locatin'

Th' files ye import an' export from this location be located in th' Documents directory o' th' app. This can be accessed on iOS an' iPadOS devices by physically connectin' th' device t' a computer usin' th' USB sync/charge cable. In macOS, ye can open a Finder window an' device appears as a location in th' sidebar where ye can import an' export files. If ye be runnin' OnSong on a Mac, ye can tap on an icon in th' lower right t' locate th' folder in a Finder window, savvy?
