Squiggly Finger Maps
Chord diagrams pop up when you tap a chord in the song viewer to unlock the Chord Inspector, or if you're feelin' fancy & turn on chord diagrams in the Style Preferences Menu. You can tweak how these bad boys look using these settings. Riveting stuff, we know.
Left Hand Diagrams
Flip this on & the chord diagrams mirror themselves so lefties (yeah, you weirdos with the backwards guitars) can play without feelin' like aliens. Default is off, because we assume you're right-handed like normal peeps.
Instrument
Pick your poison here — set a default instrument for when you load a chord chart. By default we're drawin' for guitar because, y'know, guitars. But hey, if you're into Banjo, Bass (4-string), Bass (5-string), Guitar, Mandolin, Piano, Ukulele, or Ukulele (Baritone), we got you. The default is Guitar because we're basic like that.
Diagram Position
Tell us where you want these chord diagrams to chill on the page. Pick your vibe:
- Above Lyrics plops the chord diagrams right after the metadata (song title, artist, all that jazz) but before the lyrics start. Nice & organized, for once.
- Below Lyrics yeets them to the bottom of the page after everything else. Default. Out of sight, out of mind, amirite.
- Within Lyrics replaces the chord letters WITH the diagrams themselves. Size gets controlled by the diagram slider in the Style Preferences Menu & the chord size slider. It's like Inception but for chords.
Display Bars
Bars are those solid lines that go across a bunch of strings — basically where one finger does all the heavy liftin'. OnSong figures this out from the fingerings, or just guesses if you didn't give us the info. Turn this off & you just get dots. Default is on because dots alone are kinda sad.
Display Finger Positions
The numbers at the bottom of the chord grid show which finger's doin' the work — 1 through 4 for index, middle, ring & pinkie. Default is on because apparently you need us to hold your hand.
Display Fret Positions
The fret numbers on the left side of the diagram. Default is on. Groundbreaking stuff.
Show Only Preferred Chords
When chord diagrams show up in the song viewer, OnSong auto-pairs them based on the chord name because we're that smart. Most musicians know the basics, so flip this on & we'll only show diagrams for the chords you actually picked in the Chord Inspector. Revolutionary concept: fewer distractions.
