Y'all Keep Askin' the Same Stuff

Here are some questions that y'all might have before droppin' cash on OnSong Console, or when you're tryna figure out how to use it.

Does Console work on Windows or just Mac?
ZOMG yes. OnSong Console works on Windows & Mac, & honestly prolly Linux too if you're feelin' spicy. It just needs a modern web browser that doesn't suck & actually knows HTML 5 & CSS 3.
Do I need to purchase Console for every device I own?
Nope! As long as you're signin' in with the same Apple ID on the App Store, you only gotta pay once. (We know, we're shockingly chill about it.) Plus OnSong Console is already baked into an OnSong Premium subscription. Just make sure you're actually logged in & haven't ditched your purchase receipts, y'know?
My computer is wired to my network, but my iPad is wireless. Will Console still work?
Duh, yeah. Long as both gadgets are on the same network, Console couldn't care less if one's plugged in & the other's floatin' around on WiFi.
Both my devices are on the same network but I only get a blank screen in my web browser. Why?
Ah, the classic "why is this screamin' into the void" moment. OnSong Console turns your iPad or iPhone into a lil' web server, & apparently some networks think that's rude. Try this hot mess of troubleshoots if Console's givin' you the silent treatment:
  1. Make sure your iPad or iPhone is actually on & OnSong is runnin'. Console's basically useless without OnSong. It's needy like that.
  2. Toggle Console off & back on from the Console screen in the Utilities menu, or just reboot your iPad entirely. Sometimes the web address it shows you is straight-up lyin', especially if you've been network-hoppin'.
  3. Did you type the web address correctly tho? You gotta add http:// before the IP address (that four-part number thing), & don't forget the colon & the port number (5076). We know, URLs are hard.
  4. Some corporate networks are paranoid & won't let anything else run on 'em. Ring up your IT nerds & ask if you're allowed to use Console in their precious ecosystem. OnSong Console uses ports 5076 & 5077, & some networks straight-up block those like they're contraband. Log into your router & unlock those ports, chief. Or ask your IT dept. (Again. Sorry.)
  5. If you've got a firewall on your computer, turn it off temporarily just to see if that's the jerk blockin' your connection.
  6. Try a different network & see if that fixes it. Sometimes the problem is just your network bein' extra.
Can I use my iPhone or iPad hotspot connection instead of a WiFi access point to use Console?
Yep! Flip on the hotspot in your device's Settings & pick WiFi. (Bluetooth & USB are basically decorations at this point.) Connect your computer to the hotspot, & make sure your device is already on it too. Fair warnin' tho: some carriers charge you for hotspot data like it's made of gold. KTHXBYE, your bill.
My Console screen is telling me to type in 127.0.0.1:5076 and it doesn't work. Any ideas?
127.0.0.1 is basically your iPad or iPhone talkin' to itself in the mirror, & it means the network IP address got lost somewhere. Go into the Console screen & toggle it off & back on to see if it coughs up a real web address. Or just go to Share menu » Connect » Servers & snag the IP address listed under your device's name. Easy peasy.
What web browsers does Console work with?
OnSong Console is an HTML 5 web app, so it's all fancy & modern. It works great on the latest Chrome, Safari, Firefox & Internet Explorer. (Yeah, we said it.) Every browser has its weird quirks tho, & we're constantly goin' "why does this not work the same everywhere?" Spoiler: older Internet Explorer versions are absolute nightmares.
I'm getting just the opening screen with the OnSong logo and it gets stuck. Why?
Because Javascript is bein' a diva & it's probably turned off. Make sure Javascript is enabled in your web browser's preferences. & check if you've got some overprotective security plugin that's blockin' Javascript like it's a virus. It's not. Probably.
