OMG Dropbox! Sync It Up!

When you sync with Dropbox, OnSong will create or use a folder in your Dropbox to stash the contents of your library folder. This folder's got files, settings, & the OnSong database file called OnSong.sqlite3. When these files are synced, it lets your library stay fresh & up-to-date on like, all your devices. ZOMG!

Let Me In

You gotta authorize OnSong to peek at your Dropbox the first time you try this whole thing. It'll either open a web-based sign-in screen from inside OnSong, or bounce you over to the Dropbox app on your device if you actually installed it. Once your account's linked up, you can use Dropbox without signin' in again unless something breaks & your account gets unlinked, or you're tryna access Dropbox in OnSong from a different device like some kinda multi-device maniac.

The File Situation

The files in your OnSong library & files chillin' in the sync folder on the remote server show up in this list. Plus, arrows tell you which direction the sync magic needs to happen. It's all based on file system timestamps, srsly.

  • Down — the file's gotta download from the remote server. Don't ask us why.
  • Up — the file's gotta upload to the remote server. You know the drill.

Note: The OnSong database file always downloads & syncs with your local database file, then uploads back to the remote server like a bleepin' boomerang.

Actually Doin' the Sync Thing

Tap the Sync button in the upper right corner to get this party started. The sync status shows up by highlightin' the files that are uploadin', downloadin', or already done in the list. Plus, the Sync button turns into a percentage so you can watch it crawl along.

Note: The default sync folder's called OnSong. You can rename it under Stuff You Set Up » Bring In Your Junk » The Sync Part » Which Folder Gets Synced. If you wanna see & edit text-based documents in your OnSong database, flip on Sync As Files so it actually works.
