You (But Like, For Real This Time)
The profile tab lets you flex how you show up on the OnSong local network, plus how song stuff gets beamed to your face. Use this screen to make music look however you want when it rolls in from some leader's device.
Yo, Me
This text field is where you rename yourself on the network. By default it's just your device's boring name. Change it to something that screams musicianship like "Guitar Overlord".
Song Version
OnSong Connect yeets the text-based chord chart or external file from the leader's device. BUT you might have your own fire version of the music you wanna use instead. Go wild.
- None won't touch your song when the leader switches tracks. Pick this if you're only using OnSong Connect for the fun stuff like messages.
- Use my version will grab YOUR chord chart if it exists. OnSong matches by song title, number, CCLI number, or whatever identifier the nerds use.
- Use the shared version always uses whatever the leader sent over. Boring default.
Custom
These options let you tweak how music shows up & what other services run. When you pick the default option, you're just copying the shared version's vibe. Customization options include:
- Audio syncs your device's backing track to start & stop whenever the leader does. Default is off (you're on your own, buddy).
- Metronome makes YOUR metronome dance when the leader toggles theirs. Default is off. Note: There's a tiny lag when the metronome starts & stops. Running multiple metronomes at once? Not recommended, homie — they'll all fire at slightly different times 'cause wireless networks are like 2000s internet speeds. THANKS, LATENCY.
- Navigation lets you decide if the leader can control your page scrolling & zooming. Turn it off if you're a control freak. Default is on.
- Lyrics toggles lyric display. Flip it off if you're a guitarist who don't need no stinking lyrics. Turn it on otherwise. Default is "default" which copies the shared version's mood.
- Chords toggles chords on or off. Vocalists can yeet those chords if they want. Default is "default" which copies the shared version's mood.
- External File lets you use (or NOT use) the external file if it's there. Pianists might flip this on for a lead sheet or score while everyone else gets a chord chart. Default is "default" which copies the shared version's mood.
- Transpose decides if the song transposes to its declared key or stays put. Write a song in one key for one instrument, then transpose it to another. Magic. Default is "default" which copies the shared version's mood.
- Capo decides if capo gets applied to your chord chart. Guitarists turn this on; bassists & pianists can turn it off. Default is "default" which copies the shared version's mood.
- Diagrams controls whether chord diagrams show up on your chord chart. You're basically a wizard at this point, right? Turn it off & bask in your superiority (but like… not TOO much). Default is "default" which copies the shared version's mood.
- Instrument lets you pick what you play. We know you're out there playin' jazz ukulele, so just set it already. No more guitar chords for you, hot shot. Default is "default" which copies the shared version's mood.
